We learned that Abraham Lincoln was a resident of Illinois and had a successful law practice there. It is also home of the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. We plan to check out some books on Abe Lincoln since the girls seemed very interested by him and his accomplishments.Illinois is known for its snow and tornadoes. Metropolis, Illinois is home of Superman. They have a large statue of him on Main Street that was neat to see. Their state dance is the square dance, something the girls liked watching on youtube and Southern Illinois has an over abundance of deer. My husband wished we had that problem here since he didn't see anything this deer season.
The sixth card is from Washington state.
Washington is called the evergreen state. We live on the border of Oregon/Washington so we know some details of this state like the fact that it rains a lot in western Washington. Something we didn't know was that it is the only state with a temperate rainforest in the US. We explored this fact further by learning how the Pacific Ocean helps to create this temperate area and what the benefits of it are. We recently were in Seattle, the day after receiving this postcard, so we were able to show the girls Mt. Rainier. It was fun for them to see something in person from one of the cards.The seventh postcard is from New York.
This card is packed with interesting facts about their state. We learned about Sackets Harbor. It was the United States' most important shipbuilding center during the War of 1812 when one third of the Army and one quarter of the Navy were stationed there. During this war a successful military and naval operation defended the northern border and if it weren't for this operation then this section of the country might actually be part of Canada today. The front of the card, pictured, talks of the statistics for their area. They have an average snowfall of 114". Wow! That's a lot of snow.I wonder what postcards we will be delighted with next week. We can't wait to see!

I had no idea we were so close. teehee. The next time you are in Seattle let us know we will catch up with you and say hello. We live about 20 minutes out of Seattle. We have a year pass to Woodland Park Zoo. We would love to meet you. We could show you the troll under the bridge in Seattle. Its pretty neat.
A year's pass! I would love that. We thought that was the best zoo we had been to. I've never heard of the troll under the bridge. Next time we are that direction I will let you know. You can give us an idea of all the good things to see while there. :o)

That is so cool! I wish I would have been able to show the kids. I'm sure it would've been a huge highlight of the trip.
