My eight year old completed her second grade school year. We participated in the state testing again this year. They administer the CAT test which lasts about 2 1/2 hours and is composed of 120 questions in three areas: math, language, and reading.
This wasn't a required year, but we test each year for our own benefit to see how we are doing and if any particular area needs more review. I am proud to say that she did awesome! It is a great way for her to see how her hard work pays off and it is a good motivator for me. I'm the first to admit that some days she is more motivated than I am!
The test scores aren't the most important part to us, we believe that the life lessons learned and the bonds that we are making at home are the most important part. Don't get me wrong, we work hard on our studies and want her to have a great education, but we also want our family to be close, her belief system to be in place, and her to have knowledge of more than just book work.
So school is out and our Summer vacation begins!
